Why? I wasn't knocked out, I was injured. It doesn't make any sense.

look at it this way. the Ref had to stop the match for your own
protection. you were defensless. Cheevers was not about to climb out of
the ring. She wanted to keep beating the shit out of you and that was
the only way you were going to live to tell about.

Basically, it's the submission equivalent of a blood loss victory

*** is bleeding!
*** is busted wide open!
*** is a crimson mask!
*** is knocked out cold!

Sub
*** is screaming in pain!
*** looks slightly injured!
*** looks seriously injured!
*** appears unable to continue the match!
*** has to forfeit the match due to injury!

You can lose a submission match to blood loss, just like you can lose a first blood match to submission pain.
